For the Love of Peas and Monkeys

Happy New Year! December 31, 2007

Filed under: Just Another Day, Special Memories — Jesse @ 9:58 pm

Well I’m finally back and I never meant to be gone this long.  Ok let me start off on Christmas-it was awesome!!!  Our Christmas festivities started on that Sunday when we went to my dad’s then Christmas Eve was spent with David’s family and then Christmas we went to my mom’s and David’s other grandmother.  OMG let me just say that I love, love, love my boots and of course I wore them on Christmas Day.  I also love my PSP, and of course the clothes-ooo and I can’t forget the giftcards I got from my Mom, Greg (mom’s bf), and my Dad.  David of course loved all of the cd’s and dvd’s he got.  As for the kids well you know they had a blast.  Sweet Pea tore open present after present, and Monkey well he opened a few and then we had to open the rest but he did have a lot of fun playing with paper and his toys.  You know I can’t believe how much toys and clothes the kids got; it’s been absolutely crazy trying to go thru everything and find a place for it.  I also went thru the kids closet and clothes that don’t fit are now in a bag for the Goodwill.

And if you can believe it I took my tree down the day after Christmas and I’m glad I did because that day David was sick with the flu, and Monkey was right along with him running a fever.  So on Thursday I took them both to the dr. and David got some medicine, and so did Monkey-which turned out that he had an ear infection and his throat was looking red.  And of course by Friday with the two of them coughing and sneezing around me I ended up getting a head cold but thankfully nothing serious like the flu.  As for Sweet Pea she stayed with Ashly from Christmas Day until Sunday which I’m glad because that would have been one more person sick.

***Now to some other important news***On Sunday my little Monkey turned 2!  I can’t believe he’s already two.  I honestly don’t know where the time has gone.  I plan to write more about this but I’ll  wait until later on this week where I can completely focus on how the past two years have been.  But I will say that Sunday was his first night in a big bed (twin size).  It’s been a little crazy and today he had to take a nap with me but he looks so little and sweet in his bed.  And yes I will post pictures of what his bed looks like.

Oh before I forget my Grandmother loved her blanket and couldn’t believe I made it.  She says her legs always get cold so it was the perfect gift.

Hopefully everyone is having a safe and happy new year.  As for us we’re having a bonfire out here since we live in the country and right now everyone is out on the hayride I thought this is the perfect time for me to catch up.  So please forgive me for not visiting and for not writing as you can see it’s been a crazy week and there are still some boxes and stuff laying around.  Also sorry if my post seems thrown together but I just wanted y’all to know how everything went and that I will be back again tomorrow.

3 Days Until Christmas!

I’m so excited because today we’re going to see the Polar Express in 3-D.  I can’t even remember the last time I saw a movie in 3-D.  Lets see it’s going to be me, Sweet Pea, Mimi, and Grumps.  David has to work and as for Monkey well he’s going to stay with my sister since I know he won’t behave and I would hate to miss any of it.  Then afterwards there is some festival of lights going on so that should be a lot of fun too.  OMG!  I’m so excited because Christmas is just right around the corner!  Hope y’all have a great Friday and tomorrow I’ll be sure to fill y’all in on how everything went.

5 Days Until Christmas!

First off can I just say that Elf is one of favorite Christmas movies, and David and I watched it last night.  Ok now on to some real business what we did today.  First I went and took Monkey to get a haircut because he can’t be looking all shabby for the holidays.  Then the highlight of the day was going to the mall to see SANTA!  And yes I do know him-do you?  Luckily there wasn’t a long line only a couple of people in front of us.  When it was our turn Sweet Pea made sure to tell him that she wanted the movie Happily Never After, and some Backyardigan toys.  Then it was time to take the picture-don, don, donnn.  No actually it went really well Monkey didn’t cry like I thought he might instead he had this look like “who is this guy and why did you put me on his lap.”  So of course Sweet Pea is smiling and Monkey well at least he’s looking at the camera and not crying.  So now all is well because Sweet Pea asked for the movie that she has been talking about for the last 2 weeks.  So how about y’all have you taken your kiddos to go see the big man?

My Grandma’s Gift December 18, 2007

6 Days Until Christmas!

This year I thought I would do something really special for my grandma-I decided to make her a lap blanket.  My grandma’s favorite chair has always been her recliner and in case your wondering it’s not like 50 yrs old she got a new one a couple of years ago.  Anyway last month I was shopping in Michael’s and saw that Vanna White has her own yarn and came out with two books.  So being that I crochet I bought one the books and some yarn.

S5030566.jpg picture by JesseStanfield  It is bigger than this but I folded it like this so you could get a better idea of how it looks.  The colors I used was dark purple, dusty purple, and dusty rose.  This blanket only took about 2 weeks considering I can’t spend all my time doing it, but it was really easy and fun to make.  I can’t wait to see the look on my grandma’s face, I hope she really likes it.

O Christmas Tree…Your Leaves Are So Enchanting December 17, 2007

7 Days Until Christmas!

Sorry I’ve been gone a couple of days but I’m back and with some pictures (can you guess) of my tree.  Now in the Christmas meme I did it asked what kind of tree do I do and mine is what some would call the kiddy tree.  On my tree I have ornaments that my mom gave me that were mine growing up and of course every year I buy a new ornament or two for the kids.

s5030570.jpgAnd here is our Christmas tree, now I know it’s not loaded down with tons of ornaments and there are two reasons… 1. I just knew my Monkey would get into every single one and he has, 2. I got tired of dragging out all the ornaments.  But hey it’s up and I love looking at it and so do the kids.

Now here is my mil’s tree, it’s themed and it’s very beautiful; see     s5030572.jpg

Her colors are ivory and gold, but she’s thinking of changing it for next year, or maybe adding burgundy to add a little more color.  But in case you’re wondering when the kids were growing up she had a kid tree but when as they got older she started collecting new ornaments to have a themed tree.

Ok so here’s my question do you think it’s more personal to have the “kid” tree or themed tree and which do you prefer.  Also when your kids become older do you think you will keep your kid tree or do something totally different.

Here is my answer-I love both kind of trees but I love the kid tree because for me I have ornaments from when I was growing up and all the memories come flooding back to me.  Also now that I have kids of my own every year I get ornaments that mean something to them.  Like one year it was care bears and another it was spongebob; but what I really can’t wait for are when they make ornaments and gifts at school like I did.  So I guess when they are grown I will still have the kiddy tree filled with multi-color lights and packages wrapped in any kind of paper of my choosing.  But with that being said I may buy a 4 ft. tree and have it themed but who knows.  Or I could do what my mil does-she had a kid tree in the veranda and then her main themed tree in the living room-but man that’s a lot of work.  Anyway let me know what you think and if you still have some shopping to do because there is only 7 days until Christmas.

Someone messed up a good thing-updated December 12, 2007

Filed under: Just Another Day — Jesse @ 4:00 pm

So my sister called from work last night to tell me an awesome story.  A 16 yr. old guy came in to McDonalds and purchased a 50 piece nugget meal with extra fries-well the girl at the counter got curious and asked if all this was for him.  He said no that he was taking it to some homeless people.  The girl and my sister commented on how it’s to bad the usual homeless guy who comes in everyday wasn’t there so he could eat.  So what does this guy do-he gives my sister $50 and says “the next time you see him will you please give it to him so he can eat.”  OMG can you believe that what an amazing kid.  So my sister asked him if it would be ok if she put it on a gift card and that she would leave it in the safe so when they saw him they would give it to him-the guy said no problem.  Anyway my sister goes in to work a little early and sees the homeless guy so she asks one of the managers if they could give her the gift card because she put her name on it so it wouldn’t get lost.  Well some freaking loser stole the gift card out of the safe!!  Can you believe that crap, here is a guy who’s doing a nice thing for someone else and some jerk goes and steals it!  Stuff like that really ticks me off and makes wonder about the people around us.  So Ashly (sister) called the owner and told her what happened and she’s going to look over the tapes to see who stole it and I’m pretty sure she’s going to give Ashly another gift card to give the man.  Sorry the story has a bad ending but it just really irked me and I had to let it out.  It would have been a great story but no, oh well talk to y’all tomorrow.

**UPDATE**Ok so I talked to Ashly this afternoon and it turns out that the night manager hid it in the safe so no one would steal it-thank goodness.  So it turns out that this story now has a happy ending-YEAH!

Christmas Meme December 10, 2007

Filed under: A Little Indulgence, Totally Random — Jesse @ 8:57 am

Thanks to Tracy over at Rambling Thoughts she posted this really fun Christmas meme.  So for any of you who want to do this please do and let me know when you have it up so I can come over and check it out.

  1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?  I do wrapping paper, I love wrapping gifts even though I can’t do any of that fancy stuff.  As for gift bags I rarely do that.
  2.  Real Tree or artificial?  Growing up we always had a real tree-that was until high school.  Anyway I really liked it and have been using an artificial tree.  I love how you can adjust the branches especially for some of the heavier ornaments.
  3. When do you put up the tree?  Usually right after Thanksgiving but not this year it was right before-I know crazy.

  4. When do you take it down?  Pretty much after New Years Day.
  5. Do you like eggnog?  Yuck!  Not a big fan.
  6. Favorite gift received as a child?  Probably when I got my barbie townhouse; I loved that house.
  7. Do you have a Nativity scene?  Can you believe that I don’t have one, and I love Nativity scenes.  I think after Christmas I’m going to try and find one I really like.
  8. Who is the hardest person to buy for?  I think my mom, she says she likes anything we get her because it’s the thought but you know how that goes.  She never complains but I always wonder if she really likes what we get her.
  9. Easiest person to buy for?  David hands down; it’s always the same DVD’s or CD’s.  He gives me a list of the ones he wants and then I go and pick them out.
  10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?  It was from my step-grandmother; it was cheapest Avon make-up you could buy.  It was a palette and the colors were what a clown would wear-seriously-orange, pink, oh man just thinking about it makes me cringe.  I remember taking one look and then looking at my dad and step-mom and trying to be nice about it.
  11. Mail or email Christmas cards?  Mail, but I haven’t sent any out this year.
  12. Favorite Christmas movie?  Ok this is hard because I have a few, I love the claymation of Rudolf-classic, and my other faves are Christmas Vacation and Elf.
  13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?  I start around the first of November.
  14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas gift? No.
  15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?  Any kind of sweet-cookies, cakes, pies-I looooove desserts.
  16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?  Colored
  17. Favorite Christmas song?  Jingle Bell Rock
  18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?  Travel-you have to visit your family.
  19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?  Yes-Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Doner, Blitzen, and Rudolph.
  20. Angel or Star on top of the tree? Neither it’s Santa
  21. Open the presents Christmas eve or Christmas morning? Always Christmas morning that’s what makes it so much fun.
  22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Probably the people who are out Christmas shopping and they are all like jerks.
  23. What is the corniest family tradition you do or miss doing?  You know I don’t think anything we ever did was corny but I miss my dad coming telling my sister and I that we had to hurry up and get to sleep because Santa was really close.  You know “He’s in Louisiana and his next stop is Texas so you better get to sleep.”
  24. What is the worst thing you’ve seen related to Christmas? I don’t know off the top of my head but there’s always something.
  25. Which looks best, themed trees or homey trees?  I honestly like both types but as for our tree it’s what some call the kid tree because it has all kinds of ornaments on it and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  26. Gingerbread or sugar cookies?  I’ll take any kind of sweets.
  27. Do you like fruit cake?  Umm no it’s gross and who out there really likes that anyway.

Friday Feast 171 December 8, 2007

Appetizer
What was the last game you purchased?

I think it was a Vice City game.

Soup
Name something in which you don’t believe.

I don’t believe you should judge someone without knowing who they are.

Salad
If you could choose a celebrity to be your boss, who would you pick?

Hmmm….this is pretty hard because I don’t think I would really want to work with one but if I had to choose it would be Bragelina.  Right now they seem to give to worthy causes and Brad is pretty nice to look at.  As for Angelina I think she’s pretty cool down to earth and yeah a little different but hey aren’t we all.

Main Course
What was a lesson you had to learn the hard way?

Keeping my sarcastic comments to myself; now I still tend to say what I think but I’ve gotten a lot better about it.

Dessert
Describe your idea of the perfect relaxation room.

A cozy room done in red and ivory in a log cabin with a bright crackling fire and snow lightly falling outside.  This is where I would get to curl up in front of the fire reading a book and having no distractions-at least until my masseuse shows up for my daily massage and whatever pampering I want.  Ahhh a girl can dream.

Monkey’s new favorite movie December 6, 2007

Filed under: Just Another Day, Totally Random — Jesse @ 11:51 am

You know it never seems to surprise me how many times kids can watch the same movie over and over again, and yes I remember doing the exact same thing.  It seems that now Monkey has a new favorite movie and it’s Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas.  It’s a cute movie and I remember Sweet Pea watching it a lot last year and I guess now it’s Monkey’s turn.  I’m not going to complain because any time he gets crabby or I need to do something like oh I don’t know shower; I just put him in the playpen and put on the movie and he’s totally happy just sitting there singing along, dancing, and laughing.  As for Sweet Pea her latest craze is Chicken Little and I would rather one that had fun songs to sing but hey whatever keeps them happy.  So what about y’all, what are the movies your kiddos are into watching right now.

Feeling Better December 5, 2007

Filed under: Just Another Day — Jesse @ 12:16 pm

I want to say thank you to all of you who gave me remedies and wished me well.  As of today I’m feeling much better and gargling salt water and some Tylenol sore throat did the trick.

On to some other news I bought a really cute long-sleeve shirt for Sweet Pea.  It’s red with some glittery snowflakes down the side and it was only $5!!  Can you believe that-what a deal; I bought it so she would have some thing cute to wear when we see Santa tomorrow (at least that’s the plan).  I also worked out this morning and I feel pretty good, worked out my arms and got on the treadmill-go me.  Anyway just wanted to let y’all know that I’m feeling much better.
