For the Love of Peas and Monkeys

Beowulf February 28, 2008

Alright so last night David and I finally watched Beowulf, and it wasn’t at all what I had expected.  I did know that it would be all done in CGI and I thought that it looked pretty cool, however, I didn’t know that it wouldn’t follow the poem.  I remember reading this poem a long time ago and it was never one of my favorites-I thought it was a little boring.  Anyway while watching the movie I started thinking this is not how I remember the poem being, so of course after the movie I went and googled Beowulf and sure enough I was right.  The movie wasn’t really like the poem at all, I mean sure they had followed some of the stuff but overall they changed quite a bit.  Well David liked it but couldn’t see why I bothered me so much since I didn’t really like the poem all that much.  All I can say is that I’m one of those people that when you read something and they then make a movie it should pretty much follow the storyline.  I mean what would you think if you were watching Romeo and Juliet and in the end they are both alive and live happily ever after–sure it would be nice but that’s not how the story goes and I would hate it.  Oh and speaking of Romeo and Juliet I didn’t like the remake of it with Claire Danes and Leo DiCaprio.

XXtraordinary Blogger Award February 27, 2008

I think last week Jessica gave me an award and I’m just now getting around to blogging about it–sorry Jess.  I really have been busy with school work and did I mention that David has been on vacation, so you know he throws off my schedule.  Anyway for those of you who don’t know Jessica her blog is called Never a Dull Moment, and I love it.  She’s a mom, wife, and student–she funny and talks about her life and school, oh and her obsession for Vera Bradley she is also very down to earth and cool and I’m so glad that I found her blog.  So again thank you Jess for giving me this award I love it and I appreciate it a lot especially since I haven’t been blogging as much as I’d like to.  Ok now for the people who I think are XXtraordinary bloggers:

Tracy: I love heading over to her blog because it’s always something different.  I could be about one of her kids doing something funny, to volunteering at her daughter’s school.  Oh and I love the random youtube stuff she posts and because of her I have love Rob the Intern.

Catwoman: Here’s a mom who will literally blog about anything and I mean ANYTHING; and that’s what I love about her blog.  She has a great sense of humor and her letters to Little Man will melt anyone’s heart.

Burg: Another funny mom (I’m seeing a trend here) who is also down to earth and isn’t afraid to talk about whatever is on her mind.  She also posts funny pics with wicked funny sayings.

Hmmm I just realized that all these women make me laugh but there is a lot more to them then the humor factor-they’re real.  These women aren’t afraid to blog about the good and the bad of what life has to throw at us and for that I’m grateful because it’s nice to know that you’re not alone even if we aren’t going thru the same thing.  These women are compassionate and are always there to lend a word of encouragement so thank you ladies!

My New Tatt! February 23, 2008

Filed under: Special Memories — Jesse @ 5:45 pm

Sorry it’s taken me a couple of days to post the pictures of my tattoo but I’ve been trying to catch up on some school work since I didn’t do any while at my sister’s.  Here is the picture of mine, and yes those are stretch marks or what I like to call my “scars of glory”.

I used to have a butterfly tattoo which I got when I was 18.  Anyway it was faded and I decided instead of retouching it I would cover it up.  As for why I chose a 4-leaf clover I don’t really know other than I always wanted one (and hey I could always use a little extra luck).  The guy did a really good job because you can’t even tell what used to be there.  After awhile it did hurt because he kept having to go over it so you couldn’t see the old tatt.  And my sister and I thought of getting the same one and she liked the picture of the clover I had and said lets do that so we went together and here is a picture of hers.

And incase you’re wondering she said it hurt really bad.  I didn’t think she would actually go through with it but she did; no tears but man did she want to.  As for ever doing another one on her foot probably not but she has the one.  I’m so glad we did this together, we have always had a bond but doing this has seemed to strengthen the bond of sisterhood between us.

I’m Baaack! February 20, 2008

Hello Everybody!  Even though I had a great time with my sister I’m glad to be home.  In case you’re wondering I did leave the Monkey home and David said for the most part everything went well.  Ok well there was one mishap: Monkey like most men likes to scratch his butt.  Anyway David caught him doing that and for some reason actually told him to stop; well he looks back again and sees poop on his face and his fingers in his mouth.  Now he’s not sure if he actually put any poop in his mouth but he made sure to wash his hands, face, and brush his teeth.  Of course something like this would happen to David because well that’s just his luck.  Other than that and maybe one meltdown per kid everything went alright for him; and yes he was very, very happy that I came home a day early.

As for my trip is was awesome.  We took my car to the shop for a tune-up because this guy is actually a good and honest mechanic.  And then of course we hit the mall and some other stores.  If you can believe it out of all the places we went to Marshall’s was the only one that I found stuff that was really overpriced.  Anyway I bought 3 dresses, 1 pair of khaki dress pants, and 1 plaid skirt for $5, oh and a cute pair of brown heels (to match 2 of the dresses).  We also went out to eat, and just hung out having fun.  Oh and did I mention that my sister and I got matching tattoos?  Well we did; they’re 4-leaf clovers but hers looks a little different because I put mine over the butterfly I got when I was 18.  I’ll post the pics of mine and my sisters tomorrow and let y’all know how it went.  Until then have a great day.

This and That February 15, 2008

Hopefully all of y’all had a great Valentine’s Day.  As for me it was pretty good; David was off and I was able to take care of some errands.  He then topped off the day by making dinner-which was nice.  Other than that all it well.  Ok I take that back because right now Monkey is acting like a major brat-he’s throwing a tantrum for reasons unknown to me.  And frankly this isn’t how I like to start off my morning.

On to some better news I’m looking forward to Sunday because that’s when I go to visit my mom and sister for a few days.  I’m only taking Monkey although at this point he may stay home.  Anyway I’m only taking him because they haven’t really had one-on-one time with him which means David and Sweet Pea will be hanging out and having fun.  Again we’ll see how the next couple of days go because I may end up going by myself.

Ni-Hao (Hi) February 13, 2008

Filed under: Totally Random — Jesse @ 8:46 am

I don’t know if any of your kids watch Nick Jr. but last week a new show started called Ni-Hao Kai-Lan.  The animals in the show remind of Hello Kitty.  Anyway the show is kind of like Dora and Diego–it weaves in English and Chinese, and teaches about her culture, oh and they have fun and little adventures.  Anyway Sweet Pea really likes it and I think the show is very cute, especially the animals.

Now I have read a couple of blogs that don’t agree with the show.  Like some of the values it teaches.  Personally I don’t see anything wrong with the show and I think in the society we live in now it’s important to teach our children to be accepting of others who are different from them-at least that’s what I think.  I know the values list being in harmony but as a Christian we are taught to be accepting of others and no we don’t use the words “harmony.”  I just think it’s important for my children to grow up and accept others for who they are despite their cultural background, or the fact that they may speak another language.  So for those of you who have watched the show what is your opinion about it.

Here is the list of values the show teaches:

Mind-body connection Typically, television portrays excitement as the good emotion to feel. In many Chinese-American communities, the good thing to feel is often calmness and contentment. Feeling excited and feeling calm can both be happy feelings, but they differ in how aroused the body is.

Perspective-taking In many Chinese and other East Asian families, children are encouraged to take the perspective of others to maintain harmony in relationships with other people.

Being a good member of the group Ni Hao, Kai-lan also emphasizes the Chinese and Chinese American value of being a good member of a group.

Social & Emotional GoalsHighlight cause-and-effect thinking about social and emotional issues germane to preschoolers and to support preschooler’s social and emotional development.

My New Toy February 5, 2008

I’m so excited because right now I’m using my new toy; if you guessed laptop then you are correct.  I will no longer have to fight with David on how much longer I’ll be on the computer because now I have my very own precious.  I’m really happy and have been wanting one for awhile and this will make everything so much more easier.  I know I haven’t been around the past couple of days but I’ve been trying to catch up on some school work since didn’t do any yesterday or this past weekend.

Problem Solved February 2, 2008

Sorry it’s taken me awhile to get back to y’all.  My hair issue has been settled.  I called my mom that night totally freaked.  Anyway her boyfriend asked what was wrong and she told him and guess what he suffers from oily hair.  He told me that I should always have 3 different shampoos in my shower and everyday use a different one so my hair doesn’t get used to a certain one.  So the next day I went and bought two bottles and guess what he was right!  I haven’t had oily hair since doing what her said.  Oh and I just want to say thanks for the advice and if anyone you know suffers from oily hair hopefully this will help them.  Also I couldn’t find that Paul Mitchell shampoo instead I bought Suave Clarifying Shampoo and Tresemme.  Also I read that the clearer the shampoo the better for oily hair.
